Comprehensive Community Programs

Purpose: Showcase how various public health stakeholders are successfully implementing comprehensive disease prevention and health promotion programs and to highlight success stories, promising practices, lessons learned, and evaluation strategies and outcomes.

Sessions include:  

  • Communities in Action: Creating Healthier Urban and Rural Environments
  • How Community Health Workers Are Making A Difference in Public Health
  • Effective Solutions to Chronic Disease Management
  • Prevention Across the Lifecourse: Woman, Infant, Child and Family Health Approaches

Policies and Initiatives

Purpose:  Provide examples of how national disease prevention and health promotion initiatives have been integrated and implemented at the state and local level through collaborations involving multiple sectors and disciplines.

Sessions include:  

  • Policy and Data: New Approaches
  • Policy for Systems Change: Converting Health Objectives into Laws and Culture
  • Policy for Healthy Living: A Focus on Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity
  • Policy for Change: A Focus on Health Inequity

Hot Topics in Public Health

Purpose: Explore new topic areas and emerging public health issues in the US or globally.  This track will also include innovative approaches to persistent public health concerns.  

Sessions include:  

  • Health Considerations Among LGBT populations: Data and Definition.
  • When the Crisis Doesn't End: Living with the Effects of War and Violent Events
  • Preparing the Workforce for the New Public Health
  • Innovations in Community Assessment

Achieving Health Equity

Purpose: Highlight tools to measure health inequities and disparities, as well as examples of institutional and social change necessary to achieve health equity.

Sessions include:  

  • Addressing Equity through Social Determinants of Health
  • Strengthening Chronic Disease Practices through Teaching and Reaching Underserved Populations
  • Predictors of Disparities across Life Stages
  • Data and Tools to Achieve Health Equity
