Teaching Prevention 2008
Preventive Medicine 2008, the annual meeting of the American College of Preventive Medicine, is pleased to welcome Teaching Prevention 2008, the annual meeting of the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research. This meeting will offer abundant opportunities for networking, scientific updates, skill development, CME credits, policy discussions and career development
.

Teaching Prevention 2008 attendees will submit abstracts through the ACPM Preventive Medicine 2008 Abstract Management System. If you have any questions or concerns email the ACPM office.

Suggested Topics for Submission

Submissions can cover any preventive medicine and public health topic.  Topics in cardiovascular health, adolescent health, occupational medicine/employee health and productivity, and aerospace medicine are encouraged.  However, each submission must fall under one of the five conference tracks: public health practice; clinical preventive medicine; healthcare quality improvement; prevention policy; or teaching preventive medicine.  If your program abstract crosses more than one of the five tracks, please select the track you think best fits the program.

Submission Process

To be considered for a presentation, your submission must be received by September 1, 2007.  Submissions may only be submitted online.  We will not accept faxed or mailed submissions.  The abstract submission form has been pre-formatted and there are detailed instructions on how to submit online.  If you have any questions about the process, please contact Haydee Barno, ACPM Director, Meetings and Events at hbarno@acpm.org.

All submissions will be reviewed by members of the Planning Committee.  The author of each submission will be notified of the results by October 1st.

  • For more information, contact ACPM at hbarno@acpm.org

Submission Categories

  • Oral Presentations:
Abstracts that present the results of scientific research, technological advances, innovations in program design, or practice methods are sought for oral presentations.  Authors of accepted abstracts will present their findings in concurrent sessions organized by subject area.  Concurrent sessions will be 90 minutes in length, with approximately 20-30 minutes allotted to each presenter, depending on the number of presenters selected for that session. The final time allotment will be provided upon notification of acceptance.

  • Poster Presentations:
Abstract authors may apply to have their research graphically presented as a poster presentation. Poster presentations must be set up in the exhibit hall between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2008. Poster will remain in the exhibit hall for display until Saturday 23, 2008.  Presenters must be available to discuss their work and answer questions during the formal poster session and reception on Thursday 21, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:30 pm. More information will be provided upon notification of acceptance.  Abstracts for poster presentations, like abstracts for oral presentations, must present the results of scientific research, technological advances, and innovations in program design, practice methods, or educational techniques.

Criteria for Evaluation

  • Objectives of the research, program or other activity described are clear and consistent with the principles and methods of preventive medicine.

  • The research was performed using rigorous scientific methods, and/or appropriate program planning and evaluation methods were employed.

  • Results/outcomes are described and are relevant to the professional practice of other meeting participants.

  • The proposed presentation will contribute to achieving the overall conference goals.

  • The topic is relevant to the conference focus areas.

Abstracts are selected on the basis of scientific merit.  Please request “oral” or “poster” presentation.  ACPM will make every effort to accommodate your request.  Selecting “oral” or “poster” will neither prejudice acceptance nor guarantee an oral or poster presentation.  Abstracts will be arranged to fit into focus areas.  Guidelines for presentations will be provided to authors of accepted abstracts.

Deadline

All submissions must be received no later than September 1, 2007.  Please log on to our website now to submit your abstract.
