APTR convened the 3rd Annual Healthy People State Coordinators Workshops with the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP). On November 29-30, 2007 over 90 federal, state, and local stakeholders in the Healthy People 2020 (HP2020) process met in Washington DC for two days of presentations, intense discussions, and consensus building to help inform the development of HP2020.
HP2020 seeks to improve the health of the nation and reduce health disparities by setting national health objectives and tracking progress on disease prevention and health promotion efforts. ODPHP is currently coordinating the development of HP2020. The framework, overarching goals, and focus areas are expected to be released by January 2009 and a complete set of vetted objectives, targets, and strategic plans released by January 2010. Workshop attendees included Healthy People State Coordinators (state health department officials who coordinate Healthy People efforts within their state) and Regional Health Administrators (who coordinate federal public health efforts in their region). Members of the Federal Interagency Workgroup, who are tasked with synthesizing Healthy People 2020, led many of the sessions and provided technical assistance.
